  6. We also have a modified version of the inetd available as a source patch to
  7. the standard BSD 4.3-Reno inetd source. Unfortunately this cannot support
  8. rpc services, I would however be happy to update it when I can obtain an
  9. inetd with rpc.

  11. The server reads a configuration file containing lines of the form:

  13. ajax.rsre.mod.uk        finger/tcp, talk/udp
  14. rsre.mod.uk             smtp/tcp
  15.  
  16. Where the first component contains a host name (in DNS format) or a partial
  17. domain specification (such as rsre.mod.uk). This has the advantage of allowing
  18. services to be permitted on domain/administrative boundaries rather than on
  19. physical ip addresses.

  21. Development is still under way, but the initial implementation has proved 
  22. useful and is used to filter most of our incoming services.

  24. The daemon also logs all incoming service requests indicating the source IP
  25. address of denied service requests.
